This ingenious device will cure most smoking fireplaces. If a flue's cross-sectional area (flue width x flue depth for rectangular flues) is less than 1/10th the fireplace opening's area (width x height), that fireplace may smoke. Or if the fireplace opening's height is more than 2/3 its width, the fireplace may smoke. The Smoke Guard reduces the height of the fireplace opening. This solves the dimensional problems outlined above, thereby curing the smoking problem. To reduce width, it can also be used along the sides of the opening. The Smoke Guard adjusts from 28 1/2" to 48" and installs without tools.
