Community
Action was established over forty-five years ago by Congress
as a centerpiece of the War on Poverty. The goal of Community
Action is to reduce poverty, revitalize low-income communities
and empower low-income individuals and families to become fully
self-sufficient.
New
River Community Action (NRCA) has been a well-known
proponent of self-sufficiency in the New River Valley of Virginia
since 1965. Our mission is to promote and support the
well-being and self-reliance of individuals, families and
communities.
New River Community Action, with the assistance of 1,200 volunteers who worked 78,129 hours, provided services to 14,081 unduplicated individuals in the New River Valley of Virginia in 2008-2009.

is a private non-profit charitable corporation according to
IRS code 501(C)(3). All contributions are tax-deductible.
