Greater New River Valley Chapter American Red Cross DISASTER PREPAREDNESS for any EMERGENCY “Be Red Cross Ready” 1) get a kit 2) make a plan 3) be informed "We don't have hurricanes in our community"...but we do have high winds, flooding and the fallout from hurricanes and winter storms. Prepare for ALL HAZARDS Disasters by making a plan, putting together a kit and by staying informed in the event of a natural or man-made disaster. Keep your family and business safe - get information about health safety in the event of a FLU PANDEMIC. Use your basic disaster preparedness information and ask your American Red Cross or local Health Department for additional pandemic specific information should a pandemic occur. Please consider a financial contribution to support local community efforts to provide for shelter, clothing, food and other basic needs for victims of disaster. ____________________________________________ Tornadoes Hit Southeast Virginia Tornados just missed our area in the NRV on April 28 due to lower local temperatures and cloud cover...but they devastated many other areas in Southeast VA. While Red Cross fundraising has been met for these tornadoes, please make a donation to the American Red Cross in your community to be certain that family and friends are sheltered and provided for in the event of a major disaster - and remember those single family disasters that happen quietly every day...we need your support to to provide disaster relief. ______________________________________

HEROES CAMPAIGN "GIVE WHERE YOU LIVE"
Every day the American Red Cross sends heroes to help people in their greatest time of need. Whether that need is due to a fire that has destroyed a home or a natural disaster that has left thousands without food or shelter - volunteers of the American Red Cross come to the rescue and become heroes to those they serve. The Greater New River Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross is extending a need to area residents, businesses and organizations to become heroes - just GIVE WHERE YOU LIVE to support the annual Heroes Campaign. Locally, more than 150 people are assisted each year by our local Red Cross which responds to fires, floods, natural and manmade disasters. These vital services cannot continue without the support of the community. Disasters Happen - there is no schedule for when disaster will strike next. It doesn’t only happen during the hours of the work day or the days of the work week. Disaster doesn’t care if it is raining, snowing or if the sun is beating down at 110 degrees. It doesn’t discriminate against age, ethnicity, economic class or social status. For these reasons, our local Red Cross Chapter must be prepared at any time of day or night under any circumstances to provide even just the basic necessities for survival. A successful Heroes Campaign will mean supplies for shelters, training, and expanded services. Residents, businesses and organizations can become heroes today by raising $1,000 for the campaign. Chapter Board Chairman Richard Sanford states, “The success of this chapter depends on the success of this campaign.” Chapter Director Paula Downs sums it up..."Our Help Depends On Your Help - please GIVE WHERE YOU LIVE." Become a Hero today — you or someone you love may be the one in need tomorrow. _______________________________________ Go to www.marrow.org and click donor resources, then "how do I join" to get your home test kit to BE A MARROW DONOR!
